Michelle asked me (el padre) to update her blog to let everyone know that she is totally safe and fine. Alvaro and his family, locally, in Santiago, and more distant, are also doing well.
She reports that they certainly felt the quake quite strongly, but the house is overall safe and secure (though there are some interior wall cracks). They lack electricity and internet service, but have water and gas for cooking. They have had a chance to explore locally, and she reports relatively little damage (e.g. broken glass at a nearby car dealership). Buses are running fine, the summer weather is lovely, the beaches are crowded, and the water is calm.
I'm sure she will post more as soon as she is able, but I wanted to let everyone know that she is OK.
